To see the story begin to come together in a cohesive way, seems to be the most rewarding part of the Multimedia project in our class. Ideas that were talked about coming in class, and experiencing their manifestation while having the ability to collaborate with other individuals that are motivated to create interesting content and passionate about documenting people living in Isla Vista is something special to experience, and one that I am proud to get to be having.
I’m really proud of my group members for their creativity and their willingness to teach and share ideas. At times it felt like we were bouncing creativity energy off of one another, and it enabled us to think of ideas and ways of laying out the website so that it’s engaging. For example, Miya thought of the brief description that is placed at the beginning of each project, and I think it ties the stories together in a small way and enables information to be attained in concise, fun ways.
For this project, I’ve been really focussed on capturing people through videos, and although edits need to be made to some of the content, it’s been really great to get to create the videos and see my skills utilized while learning amidst the process. Especially in the post production process there are always little ideas that come to mind when editing the videos or various critiques that enable to be more aware the next time I go to film a video, pushing me to create content that is more engaging and fine tuned. The process of creating this project has enabled me to do all of this as I reflect on the videos that were created, notice errors, and also perks, so that I can continue improving.
The writing and composition for this project I think provided the most challenge, and continues to do so as my group members and myself put together the website. It’s difficult to write in a group setting where everyone is coming to the story with their own tone, thus making it hard for cohesion to be met. As well as this, finding time to meet with one another frequent enough in order to settle down on the themes for the story and how it will be portrayed has been difficult, offering challenges to our ability to create a story that fully fits together. However, this is a process for any group writing project, and one we will continue to improve upon this next week as we put the finishing touches on the project.
In spite of the challenges being presented, I’ve felt a greater sense of creativity in my ability to write this story and to tell the stories of these individuals and how they are expressing their own creativity. Getting to tell the stories of the interviews, and flowing with our theme of Saturdays in IV, has enabled me to really delve into these individuals lives and how they spend their weekends pursuing their passions and expressing creative freedom.
There are various revisions that I’d like to take place, the first being the writing and ensuring the stories are told with our individuality, however also with a sense of cohesion that is necessary so that readers are not confused. As well as this, there’s a lot of work to be done with the visual aspects of the website, from making a more engaging and accessible layout, to also editing videos and taking some more photos that I feel are currently missing from the site so that it’s captivating to the eye in aesthetic and creative ways. These are all things that I’m excited to get done within the next week as the story continues to come together.
